What Is an Eyebrow Transplant?

An eyebrow transplant is a surgical solution for people with thin or non-existent eyebrows. Our hair restoration specialists perform the procedure using hair transplant methods such as follicular unit extraction (FUE) or follicular unit transplantation (FUT).

An eyebrow hair transplant uses hair removed from a hidden area near the nape of your neck; this hair is finer and closely matches your eyebrow hair. This area is genetically programmed to continue growing hair, even for people who experience hair loss on other parts of the scalp.

The FUE technique involves using a handheld, motorized punch that precisely harvests hair follicles. During an FUT procedure, the surgeon removes a small strip of hair, which is then separated into microfollicular unit grafts to be transplanted.

Who Is a Good Candidate for an Eyebrow Transplant?

Good candidates for the surgery want to enhance their brow volume, density, and distribution and are willing to regularly groom their brows to maintain the results. People experience eyebrow hair loss for several reasons. Traumatic injuries, certain medications, aging, and years of overplucking can all result in sparse or non-existent eyebrows. Additionally, health conditions such as alopecia areata, thyroid disorders, and vitamin deficiencies, can all contribute to permanent hair loss.

What Happens During an Eyebrow Transplant?

The procedure is typically done using a local anesthetic around the eyebrows and the parts of the scalp where your surgeon harvests the hair follicles. Besides the brief pinch that occurs when the anesthetic is injected, patients remain comfortable throughout the process. The meticulous method of removing follicles and transplanting them to the eyebrows usually takes about 5 to 7 hours.

How Much Does an Eyebrow Transplant Cost?

The cost of eyebrow transplant surgery varies depending on the extent of the procedure needed to produce the desired results. When comparing eyebrow transplants to nonsurgical treatments, it’s important to remember that transplant surgery is a permanent solution to eyebrow hair loss. We provide an estimated price quote for patients after their consultations.

What To Expect After Eyebrow Transplant Surgery

There is minimal downtime after the procedure. Swelling and some bruising are normal, and patients should avoid touching the brows as they heal. You won’t see immediate results. The transplanted hair sheds after about 4 to 6 weeks and new hair begins growing. You’ll begin seeing long-term results about 4 to 6 months after the procedure and the appearance of the eyebrows will continue improving for about 12 months. Trim and shape the brows to maintain the appearance you want.

Eyebrow Transplant vs Microblading

Microblading is one of the temporary alternatives to eyebrow transplants that creates the illusion of fuller brows. During a microblading treatment, a technician uses a small blade to make hair-like strokes in the skin’s upper layer. Pigment deposited in the tiny cuts creates the appearance of eyebrows. Since hair is not restored, results do not appear as natural as with a brow transplant. Additionally, the pigment fades over time, requiring annual touchups to maintain the desired look.
