    What Is an Eyebrow Transplant?

This type of hair transplant surgery involves recreating or filling in the eyebrows with hair grafts harvested from the scalp using follicular unit extraction (FUE) or follicular unit transplant (FUT) . We typically use hair from an area hidden near the nape of the neck; this hair is finer than the other hair and closely matches the eyebrows. This area is genetically programmed to continue growing hair, even for people who experience hair loss on other parts of the scalp.

    Candidates for an Eyebrow Transplant

Good candidates for eyebrow transplant surgery are women and men who meet the following criteria:

    • Naturally thin or light eyebrows
    • Age-related eyebrow loss or thinning
    • Lost density because of long-term overplucking or compulsive pulling (trichotillomania)
    • Eyebrow loss due to a medical procedure, an injury, or medication

If you are not a good candidate for an eyebrow transplant, our surgeons will review medical management and nonsurgical treatment options.

    Your Eyebrow Transplant Procedure

Our surgeons typically perform eyebrow transplants using a local anesthetic around the eyebrows and on the scalp in the area targeted for harvesting hair follicles. During the procedure, the team harvests the grafts and separates them into natural microfollicular units of 1 to 4 hairs. We then sort the micrografts to ensure we use the most delicate hairs that closely resemble eyebrow hairs.

The surgeon outlines the existing eyebrows using specialized stencils and calipers. We then place the grafts in a herringbone-like pattern to mimic natural eyebrow placement and angles. Our meticulous method of removing follicles and transplanting them to the eyebrows takes about 5 to 7 hours.

    Eyebrow Transplant Recovery

Eyebrow transplant recovery is much quicker than complete hair transplant recovery. Expect swelling and mild bruising in the face, mostly surrounding the eyes. Hold off on vigorous exercise for up to 3 weeks following surgery. Take care to avoid touching your eyebrows as they heal.

We will provide post-operative instructions explaining how to care for and trim your new eyebrows.

How Much Does an Eyebrow Transplant Cost in Rochester, NY?

The cost of eyebrow transplant surgery varies with the extent of the procedure needed to produce the desired results. When comparing eyebrow transplants to nonsurgical treatments, it’s important to remember that transplant surgery is a permanent solution to eyebrow hair loss.

    Eyebrow Transplant FAQ

    Do eyebrow transplants look natural?

When performed by an experienced specialist, results will look like the eyebrows grew back. To achieve attractive, natural-looking eyebrows, our surgeons carefully design graft placement, accounting for face shape, the patient’s age, and the density of the existing brows.

    Does eyebrow transplant surgery hurt?

Besides the brief pinch during anesthetic injection, you should remain comfortable throughout the process.

How long does it take for eyebrows to grow after a transplant?

You won’t see immediate results after an eyebrow transplant. After about 4 to 6 weeks, the transplanted hair sheds, and then new hair grows in. Long-term results become noticeable about 4 to 6 months after the procedure, with improvement for about 12 months.

Will I need to take care of my eyebrows after a transplant?

Yes. While natural eyebrows typically stop growing before they exceed a half-inch in length, transplanted hair from the scalp will continue to grow like the hair on your head. Therefore, you will need to trim and shape your new brows to maintain the appearance you want.
